short way by which white
wins in three moves: three times in a row a white man lands on square 22. reflects how he composed: big strokes - see the first move! - and,
therefore, a short but flashy
solution in winning. The ending is quite special, known for 40 years, but not implemented into a satisfactory composition. Boris Fjodorov (1941-2010) Johan Bastiaannet besteedde in De Problemist van april 2016 ruime aandacht aan deze beroemde componist uit de Oekraïne. (1971-2016)
 Eén van de grootste dampromotors met als hoogtepunt zijn in 2015 verschenen indrukwekkende boek: "The art of winning: the beauty of the game of draughts", bijbel voor zowel partijspelers als componisten. One of the
greatest draughts promotors with as highlight his impressive book that
appeared in 2015:
'The art of winning: the beauty of the game of draughts', bible for both game players and composers. L: "De Scrum genoemd, vanwege de wederzijdse 'omhelzing' van zwarte en witte schijven, zoals in een rugbywedstrijd, is mijn fraaiste compositie." Terwijl de standen van deze componist én partijspeler altijd op partijstanden doen lijken weet hij hiermee toch prachtige combinaties voor elkaar te krijgen, zoals deze! De Problemist oktober 2012. Scrum", as the position reflects to a certain way the restarting
position of a rugby (football) game.
This composer prefers game-like positions and is able to create beautiful forcings and combinations from that. De Problemist October 2012. quite fantastic twofold forcings composition of the grand master in this area, Frans Hermelink! Een maand voor overlijden verscheen zijn bijdrage 'Hoe ontstaat een damprobleem' in De Problemist april 2016. One month before passing away, his article 'How to compose a draughts problem' appeared in De Problemist April 2016. Alexander Golubev (1953-1984)  L: Deze compositie eindigt met een waanzinnig damoffer van wit via een meerslag 48x33. Philip Ham (1908-1971)  Dutch Master of Draughts since 1937 was also editor of high-standing draughts columns in several newspapers. In his time recognised as best blind draughts player. In addition, Philip's creations of compositions on the draughts board are still impressive. Three examples are shown here. L: In the twenties of the last century, there were no so-called 'Strong Rules' developed for draughts compositions. So, non-economic strokes and a not sharp ending were no problem. Nowadays, we are becoming gradually more and more tolerant with respect to the SR's, if they prohibit beautiful stroke combinations, as would have been in this example! Het Damspel of November, 1925. Krijn Hemminga (1979)
 In 2015 wakker geschud door onze website en facebook: "Ik heb jaren geleden wat damproblemen gemaakt. Won de Starterswedstrijd 2004 en daarna heeft Pieter Kuiper mij min of meer gecoached. Heb ook nog een aantal jaren in het bestuur van de KvD gezeten als secretaris (als opvolger van Pieter). Ik maak niet zoveel problemen meer, maar door al dat digitale gedoe is mijn interesse weer gewekt!" Got a 'wake-up
call' in 2015 by our KvD website and facebook and became
"re-interested" in draughts composing.
Made many years ago draughts problems, did win a tournament in 2004, was coached by Pieter Kuiper, and was even a number of years secretary of our Society. L: "Hiermee won ik de Starteswedstrijd in 2004. Ik kende en volgde toen al de Scherpe Regels en houd mij daar nu nog steeds zoveel mogelijk aan vast." De Problemist oktober 2004. This
is the winning composition of the starters draughts composing
tournament 2004. It obeys the so-called 'Sharp Rules'
of draughts composing, a.o. no side solutions, a sharp ending, economic strokes. De Problemist October 2004. M: "De stand na de slag 26x10 van wit is best bijzonder in de aangegeven ontleding, waarbij zwart in de derde zet 45x43 slaat (bij 25x43 wit wint ook). position after white's stroke 26x10 is quite special (in the solution
given, black plays 45x43: white also wins if

Henk van der
Heijden (1951)
 Heeft zich als partijspeler in zijn jonge jaren ook met de damproblematiek bezig gehouden. Door werk en gezin daarna te weinig tijd voor gehad, maar nu, in 2015 als 60-plusser weer enthousiast begonnen met de problematiek en verzorgt sinds kort een damrubriek in het Brabants Damnieuws, het blad van de PNDB (Provinciale Noord-Brabantse Dambond), als opvolger van Johan Konings. Hieronder drie composities van een problemist die zich nog steeds, bescheiden maar ten onrechte, 'amateur' noemt. Still an active

When I saw the author's solution, it was clear to me: it's a beautiful and complicated draughts problem. The stroke 45x14! is splendid: two black kings are hit, while the third one is soon thereafter hit too. This reminds me of a painting of Barnett Newman: you can watch it for hours. (So ... Henk 'non-professional'? We don't think so!) De Problemist June 2014. M: "Hoewel dit probleem nog nergens is gepubliceerd, vind ik het zelf een heel leuk probleem, genaamd de 'Drie Zwarte Dammen'." Maar is sinds kort, dankzij onze facebook, weer actief geworden. Moge dat gezegd zijn, Henk (van der Heijden)! De eerste twee van eind 90-er jaren van de vorige eeuw, de rechtse is in mei 2015 op facebook verschenen! Three beauties
of this talented composer, who, unfortunately, doesn't make many
draughts problems.

Zeker niet mijn meest spectaculaire composities, maar klein en fijn. De meeste oplossers kijken naar de slag naar veld 7, met damhalen en rondslag." De Problemist april 1997. One of his
favorites. Not that spectactular, but small and fine. Most people will
look for a stroke towards
